Hi and welcome. My name is David Kittner and I reside in Peterborough, Ontario. I’d like to share with you a little bit about who I am and how “Youth Fitness Guy” came to be.
First and foremost, I’m a dad to two wonderful children, Julia, 22, and Thomas, 17. The most important things I know about childhood development, I’ve learned from my kids. I’ve made many mistakes but have always looked at them as opportunities to learn and grow. I’ve found over the years that my children have taught me just as much (if not more) than I’ve taught them!
For the first 15 years of my career I worked as a Project Manager in commercial real estate development. Although it was a rewarding career, I wanted to do something where I could making a positive difference in the lives of others. After much soul-searching, I decided to go back to school to become a Montessori Teacher. For eight amazing years I had the privilege of working with children aged six to nine. During this time, I discovered that teaching Physical Education brought me the greatest joy out of all my teaching responsibilities. I was truly inspired by the transformative power of play and physical activity. I knew I’d found my calling.
Finding your life’s true purpose and passion is a wonderful thing. It’s even BETTER if that’s what you get to do for a living! In 2008, I decided to be “Youth Fitness Guy” full time and it’s been one of the best decisions of my life.
As Youth Fitness Guy, my mission is to enhance the physical, emotional and educational well-being of children through play, physical activity and athlete development. I work with parents, guardians, teachers, coaches and fitness trainers to help create a positive physical culture for children and youth.
I’m certified as a Youth Fitness Specialist, Youth Speed and Agility Specialist, and a Youth Nutrition Specialist with the International Youth Conditioning Association, the premier international authority with respect to athletic development and youth-participant-based conditioning. I’m also a Certified Functional Strength Coach with Michael Boyle of Michael Boyle Strength and Conditioning.
I conduct athletic development sessions, workshops and clinics for youth athletes, parents, teachers and coaches, and Internationally present at Fitness, Physical Education and Coaching Conferences.
I’m also a contributing author to the bestselling book, The Definitive Guide to Youth Athletic Strength, Conditioning and Performance as well as a contributor to Ontario Minor Hockey Association’s Hometown Hockey Magazine.
I wear many “hats” as Youth Fitness Guy but everything I do, from modelling active play to teaching athletic foundations, has the same message: PLAY STRONG. LIFELONG.
I hope that I can become a resource for you as we help kids to be active while at the same time having fun and finding joy through movement and physical activity.
